Do Carpet Beetles Bite?

Carpet beetles are tiny, usually less than 12 mm long, light brown, and have a rough body surface. Even though carpet beetles don’t bite humans, the hair fibers on the beetle can cause bumpy, itchy on the rash skin that’s similar to bed bug bites. Plus, airborne fibers can cause eye irritation and respiratory tract infections. If you notice carpet beetles in your home and you need an exterminator in Laurel to remove them, contact Raven Termite and Pest Control.

How Carpet Beetles Get Into Your Home

Since they can fly and are overwintering pests, carpet beetles are determined to get indoors. These bugs feed on carcasses of animals and can be found living inside of walls feeding on dead birds, insects, wasp nests, and rodents. Eventually, they’ll make their way out of the walls and into living areas. When this happens, they’ll lay eggs and the larvae will then have access to furniture, carpets, clothing, blankets, and sheets. They’ll feed on these items if there is oil, sweat, or food debris soaked into them. When carpet beetles are in these areas they come in contact with your skin and their hair fibers become airborne.
Another danger occurs when these pests make their way out from behind the walls and find their way into the pantry. Carpet beetles lay eggs where the larvae will have access to seeds, milled products, and pet food. If these bugs haven’t found their way into the pantry yet, store your products and food in plastic containers. This step will prevent them from laying eggs in your food.
